In Search of the Perfect Cupcake: Little Cupcake Bakeshop

I'm in search of the perfect cupcake. I decided that I would try my hand at cupcake tasting while The Boyfriend and I were walking around the neighborhood. It was a very impromptu decision that I will probably end up loving or regretting somewhere down the line.

Today's featured cupcake spot is the Little Cupcake Bakeshop. I've been here several times, but that was prior to my becoming a Cupcake Connoisseur. This afternoon I had the pleasure of trying a sugar-free vanilla cupcake. I'm a HUGE fan of all things vanilla with yellow cake, so my cupcake was just what I needed. The thing I didn't enjoy about the cupcake was the fact that it had far too much frosting for my liking.

Yep. I totally went there. Too.Much.Frosting. The sugar-free aspect of the cupcake had me at hello, but the frosting tasted like marshmallows, and I'm not the world's biggest fan of marshmallows.

Yep. I totally went there. Again.

It was while The Boyfriend and I were gorging ourselves on carbs and insane amounts of sugar (more him than me - sugar free cupcake, remember?) that I unleashed my desire to become a Cupcake Connoisseur.

"I think I could like, test out two cupcakes from competing bakeries once a month," I said while I licked the frosting off of my cupcake.

"Uh, honey? I don't think that tasting cupcakes that frequently would be in line with your goal of losing weight."

"Excuse me?" I choked. "Are you trying to say I'm fat?"

"No. I'm just saying that it wouldn't be aligned with your goal of losing weight."

"You're totally saying I'm fat, aren't you?"

"No, what I'm saying is -"

"You're telling me that I'm a heifer. Thanks."

"Whatever."

And that's where the conversation ended (for now).

The Boyfriend had a Whoopie Pie. I can't really tell you how he felt about it, but I know how I felt about watching him eat it: Sick to my stomach (again, I totally have this intense hatred of all things with marshmallows). I think he liked it, but later regretted his decision as we walked back to the apartment.

In order to maintain my girlish figure, I promised The Boyfriend that I would only conduct my cupcake searches once every two months. My next bakery of choice is Ivy Bakery. Ivy has a huge selection of cupcakes that my mouth is waiting to try. Maybe I should get an internship there so I could um, you know, get a chance to test out any new cupcakes Ivy is thinking about incorporating into her bakery...

Before I forget, ZEPOLOPEZ, a dear friend of mine since middle school, gave me her own personal Blogger Award! I love the fact that she has taken the time to read my writing. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks again, ZEPOLOPEZ!

  1. Um, two cupcakes a month ain't gonna break the bank. You'll work that off just fine. :)

I hate it when there's too much frosting too! It's usually over-compensation for sub-par ingredients IMHO.

I totally want cupcakes for my wedding cake! We'll see if I can find any good ones in Steamboat or Denver...

  6. @ JennyMac:

My friend has Martha Stewart's COOKIE book. I could look at that book for DAYS on end. There's another cookbook out there that I bought the same friend. It shows you how to bake AND decorate cupcakes. I'll get back to you once I find the name of the book.
