Why I Could Never Be A Teacher

Hi All,

So I'm participating in the 20-Something blog swap this year, and Girl With the Red Hair is my partner! I'm very excited to have her write on my blog. If you want to read more of her, please click on the link to go to her site. I hope you enjoy the post.

Since I’ve been paired with the Tiny Teacher for the 20sb blog swap, I figured it was only appropriate to write about why I could NEVER be a teacher.

1. I don’t particularly like kids. Sure, if they’re small, cute and don’t talk much, then they’re OK but any older and their a bit too lippy for my taste.
2. Kids smell. I’m sorry if you have kids, but it’s a true fact. When they hit that age between 8-14, right around the time that their mom stops bathing them but their also too lazy to bathe themselves properly, they start to stink. I walked into a classroom full of 5th graders once and puked in my mouth.
3. Kids are LIPPY. Going back to number one; kids, teenagers in particular, have a mouth on them. I know; I was one not too long ago. I don’t think I could handle kids talking back to me the way I talked back to my teachers. I’d want to slap them in the face.
4. I’ve had fantasies about drowning kids. I guess at this point I should point out that I USED to be a swim instructor. For four long years. So even though I didn’t have to deal with the same children all day long, I did have to deal with groups of kids for 30-60 minute periods. At least in the pool you can just make them swim until they’re too exhausted to argue with you, but I’ve had visions of holding kids underwater before. If I can’t handle 30 minutes without wanting to drown them, I certainly don’t think I’d be able to handle an entire day!

With all that said, I really don’t hate kids. I adore my niece and nephew and really do enjoy watching them, just not for extended periods of time or in large groups. And yes, I plan on having kids of my own one day, and I’m sure I’ll love them heaps and heaps, I just won’t volunteer to help out in their classrooms… Kidding. Sort of…

So, kudos’ to you if you’re a teacher! I have huge amounts of respect for you!

If you aren’t a teacher, is it something you could see yourself doing?

  2. LOL! I hear ya on some of those reasons! I love kids too and I especially love giving them back at the end! Props to you Ms. Teacher for having the patience to cope! :) Loved your guest blog over at The Girl with the Redhair! Good luck with your addiction. My only advice is this: Hit the Ignore button and step away from the computer! :)

  3. I'm afraid to have a child because of all the hell I put my parents through growing up: I was a very talk-back kind of child. I have no idea why.

I think I could be a teacher, but it would take a lot of patience from me!

  4. When I was a kid, I always said I wanted to be a teacher. Now that I'm older, no way. No thank you. I used to train animals for a living. They don't talk back, they work for very small bribes, and they're pretty agreeable. I find most kids on the other hand to be completely obnoxious.
